Everything we do brings us closer to or further away from the person we want to be.
What way are you moving?
It sounds like an exhausting concept, always having to be aware of what we are doing and how it will affect our future, but on the other side of that, think about the future.
Do you want to be cleaning up the mess from your past actions??
No thanks.
Support yourself now to avoid waking up one day and asking, “what the hell happened”.
If you already find yourself there, feeling behind the ball or wondering when things go so off track it is time to put your big girl pants on and prioritize yourself.
Make this easy, set our environment up to keep yourself on track so you aren’t constantly fighting temptations.
This is everything from not buying a 24 pack of White Claws so you can’t easily reach for one when you get thirsty on Thursday nights, to putting the apples in front of the cookies in your refrigerator.
Paying the extra 50-100 bucks for a training membership so when you walk in the gym you don’t spend the full hour figuring out what the hell you should be doing (and bonus, spending the extra money means you are MUCH more likely to actually get to the gym and workout in the first place).
If you are stuck working out at home that means planning your full workout in advance, setting an exact time to start it, and setting everything up the night before.
Meal prep. This is a no brainer. An hour of work will equal days of easier decisions when it comes to your nutrition.
Don’t take your phone in the bedroom at night. No one got a good night’s sleep scrolling until they shut their eyes.
Sleep is everything. Prioritize that and EVERYTHING gets easier.
Leave your phone in the kitchen so you are not distracted by every sound when you are working from home.
Do your laundry before the pile touches the ceiling and it feels overwhelming.
Don’t leave this to chance, if something is important to you TREAT IT like it is important.
There are hundreds of little things we can do every single day that make being good to our future-self easier.
When we think about ourselves in the future, we focus to much on what we want to look like, or what “stuff” we want to have accumulated.
We forget to think about how we want to FEEL and what actions it will take to give us these things.
That is the disconnect between what we want to be and what we are, forgetting the magic is found in the small daily tasks.
The most mundane things are the biggest things moving us forward.
Hundreds of seemingly un-important things that add up into something unpleasant or something amazing.
Most people forget that, focusing only on the big goals and forgetting to break them down into the minutia it takes to get us there.
Think about it in the opposite direction. No one gained 30 pounds in one meal. It was hundreds of choices that added up to a result.
What future are you voting for?
This is something I asked myself a lot this past year: “is this voting for who I want to be” and honoring the yes or no that came after. It was annoying at first, the constant questioning, but like anything it became automatic.
Bigger than that, it’s given me more freedom and peace then any past forced change. What is a NO today can be a YES tomorrow, this method allows for fluidity,
not the rigidity of arbitrary rules most of us have attempted to suffer through in the past.
Coolest thing of all, this “change” takes the least amount of effort or willpower compared to any other method I have tried (and I have tried them all) (at least twice).
A question. That is it. Is this voting for my future self?
No good or bad. Right or wrong.
Nothing is off limits.
Sometimes my future self needs to lay her ass on the couch and chill.
Sometimes my future self needs to get her ass off the couch and fold the laundry.
Sometimes my future self really needs garlic pizza and a brownie from Pudgies (if your local you know).
Sometimes my future self needs to eat a kale salad.
Self-questioning has gotten me, and the women I have been lucky enough to work with in the past, further ahead than anything else.
In addition, it has helped us learn about ourselves and who we want to be in the process.
Are you moving towards or further away from the ideal version of yourself??
Are you voting for your highest and best self?
Simple question, amazing returns.
What would next year look like if you didn’t set any other goal but to honor your future self?? I think it would be pretty amazing….
